In 2012, the online store Zappos was thevictim of an attack that resulted in the breach of personal data of its customers. The case reached the courts and the decision (temporary) was issued after 7 years. However, this decision will not please the customers. The court decided that the compensation of the customers will be a small discount (10%) on the products .
The Zappos case is another data where victims will not be properly compensated. The same happened with Yahoo, where users can only receive $358.80.
The decision for the Zappos victims is not final and another court hearing is expected, which will take place on December 20. However, this is a seven-year court case, which reached the US and is very likely to receive official approval from the judge.
ZAPPOS: Data Breach 2012
The lawsuit was filed after a data breach involving customers of online clothing and shoe retailer Zappos. Zappos was founded in 1999 and was acquired by Amazon in 2009. In 2012, hackers managed to breach servers and steal the personal information of 24 million customers.
The victims took legal action and filed a lawsuit against Zappos, claiming that the store did not adequately protect their data. In the lawsuit, they also sought damages.

Preliminary settlement
After months of negotiations, the two sides reached a preliminary settlement on September 19.
According to court documents, lawyers will inform Zappos users , via email , about the terms of the settlement and how they can file a new lawsuit, or object to and refuse approval of the settlement.
The court's final decision is expected on December 20, which will likely be the same as the interim one.
If the decision is finally approved, users will be able to request and use the 10% discount within 60 days. This decision is certainly not what the victims.
