Instagram feature can detect phishing emails

e-mail

If you are an Instagram and are worried about whether the emails received from the platform are secure or not, you can now use the new tool offered by the social network and feel more confident.

On Monday, Facebook 's photo-sharing platform said it was introducing a new feature that will allow users to check whether Instagram actually sent them an email .

"Malicious actors are getting better at impersonating emails from Instagram, making it increasingly difficult for people to tell if it's a real email or a fake one," an Instagram spokesperson said in a statement.

To see the new feature, go to the site’s settings and click on the Security. There, you’ll find an option called “Emails from Instagram.” A tab labeled “security” will show you a list of emails the company has sent you in the last 14 days that are related to your account security. The “Other” tab will show Instagram messages sent that aren’t related to security.

Instagram advises users not to click on links in emails that appear to come from the company unless they can verify that they were actually sent by the social network. Instagram also outlines on its website the steps you can take to secure account if you believe it has been compromised. These include requesting a login link, reversing an email change, and reporting the account.
