Instagram users should forget about stalking as the “Follow” feature is being permanently removed. What is “Following”? It’s that tab you’ll find if you click on the heart in your menu and on the top left next to “you” is this treasure trove of “gossip”.
“Following” displays the activity of all the users you follow. In other words, all their likes.
The “Following” feature was one of the first features introduced to Instagram in 2011, but the company is finding that many people are turning to the more recent “Explore” page to find new accounts to follow. Now, the “Following” tab is the easiest way to keep up with your friends’ activity.
Vishal Shah, head of product at Instagram, confirmed in an initial report to BuzzFeed News that the reason for getting rid of the feature is because many people don't know about its existence.
Instagram had already started testing the removal of the “Following” feature back in August to gauge user reactions, but its official removal begins this week. So, in the coming days, we will all see the feature disappear, which may upset many curious users out there.
