Trend Micro Incorporated, one of the most important companies in the cybersecurity sector, published a report on attacks in the first half of 2019 and showed that there was a large increase in fileless attacks. Compared to the first half of 2018, these attacks increased by 265%.
These findings are in line with predictions made by researchers last year. Malicious hackers are evolving their methods and increasingly targeting businesses and environments that will bring them more profit.
“ Complexity and stealth are the name of thecybersecurity gamethese days, as technology and criminal activities become more connected and intelligent,” said a Trend Micro researcher. “From the attackers’ perspective, we’ve seen deliberate, targeted, and cunning attacks that exploit people, processes, and technology. However, from the enterprise perspective, digital transformation and the increased use of the cloud are expanding the scope that hackers can attack. That’s why businesses need a partner that combines human expertise with advanced security technologies to better detect, correlate, respond to threats, and remediate.”
As mentioned above, the first half of 2019 saw a significant increase in fileless attacks. At the same time, more threats appeared that are not detected by traditional security, as they can execute in a system's memory, reside in the registry, or exploit legitimate tools. Exploit kits.

According to the research, the most easily detected malware in 2019 was Cryptomining malware. Attackers mainly targeted servers and cloud environments. It was also found that attacks on routers increased by 64% compared to the first half of 2018, once again confirming the researchers' predictions.
Another threat that increased by 319% since the second half of 2018 is cyber extortion . Corporate email breaches increased by 52%, while ransomware attacks increased by 77%.
Trend Micro managed to stop more than 26.8 billion threats in the first half of 2019, which is 6 billion more threats than in the first half of 2018. A huge percentage (91%) of these threats exploited victims' emails.
Containing and countering these advanced threats requires intelligent defense, which will be able to correlate data from portals, networks, servers and endpoints, so that it can better detect and prevent attacks.
