Security company Trend Micro conducted a study, the results of which showed that Brazil is the second country in the world that has received the most ransomware. attacks
Also, the Fast Facts report, which describes trends in the global cyber landscape ,showed that 10.64% of all ransomware attacks, which occurred during the first quarter of 2019, took place in Brazil.
The United States of America holds first place with a percentage of 11.06% (also during the first three months of the year).
The list of the top five most attractive targets for hackersis completed by India, Vietnam and Turkey.
Trend Micro came to these results by examining ransomware attacks distributed via email, URLs, and malicious files. According to the research, there were over 1.8 billion attempts from January 2016 to March 2019.

When it comes to ransomware attacks, which are shared via email, Brazil ranks third. The top two places are occupied by China and the United States.
However, according to the report, URL ransomware attacks are not as common in Brazil. It still ranks relatively high, but not as high as email attacks. In this category, it is among the 15 most targeted countries
The fact that these attacks are not as common in Brazil is partly due to Trend Micro itself, which has blocked around 2.5 million such threats in the country during the first quarter of 2019. The company claims that a single malicious URL could affect around 12 Brazilian users
Another observation made by the company is that the amount of money hackers are demanding to release encrypted files after ransomware attacks has doubled compared to the previous year.
According to research by Coveware, the average amount per incident in the first quarter of this year is $12,762, compared to $6,733 in the last quarter of 2018.
