It was recently revealed that retro gaming siteEmuparadise was hacked, resulting in the exposure of 1.1 million user accounts. The breach appears to have taken place in April 2018.
The retro gaming site hosted ROMs for retro games, which could be used in emulators. However, in August 2018, Emuparadise decided to no longer host game ROMs. It continued to operate as a retro gaming database with a community forum.
Over the weekend, some users reported that the sites Have I Been Pwned and HackNotice sent them notifications informing them that in April 2018, Emuparadise suffered an attack that resulted in a breach of their data.
As haveibeenpwned.com reported , yesterday, June 9, 2019, the site received a database from DeHashed.com. The database includes 1,131,229 accounts that were compromised in 2018 following an attack on the Emuparadise site.
Specifically, the site stated: “In April 2018, the self-proclaimed “largest retro gaming site on earth,” Emupardise, suffered a major data breach. The compromised vBulletin forum exposed 1.1 million email addresses, IP addresses, usernames, and passwords.”.
There is still no information on how DeHashed managed to gain access to this database and share it with other sites. However, as early as January, it was reported that users on hacker forums had a database belonging to Emuparadise and were planning to sell it.
