Gmail is down: Users around the world report 404 error

Gmail appears to be down and not working as users of the Google email client have reported connection issues.

Gmail is Google's email solution used all over the world. But this morning users have been complaining that they can't log in, but the app is showing users a 404 error.

There have been over 400 reports from users who insist that Gmail is not working properly. Many Gmail fans have taken to Twitter to express their frustration over the issue.

One said: “What’s wrong with Gmail? I haven’t seen Gmail go down since I was born, but today I think it went down.” Another said: “Google’s Gmail servers are down. They’re unable to connect in India.” A third said: “Gmail is down today? Can you give us an estimated time to restore it?” A fourth said: “Gmail is down? I’m getting a 404 error.”

Gmail appears to be giving users a 404 error on both desktop and its mobile app. A number of users have posted a screenshot of the error. It says: “The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know.”

One user in particular sent a screenshot of the error to Google's Twitter account, which responded.

The company insisted that there were no "outages" with the service and insisted that the user try clearing the browser cache and cookies.

Google's response read: "Hi, there is no outage, you can try clearing your browser cache and cookies to see if that helps."

It is currently unclear whether performing such an action fixes the current issues plaguing the email client.
