LocalBitcoins was the latest victim of hacking. On January 26, the platform detected a security breach that allowed hackers to gain access to a number of accounts and liquidate them. According to localbitcoins, a foreign software was the source of the problem.
LocalBitcoins was hacked :
Due to the attack, logged-in users on the platform were prompted to re-enter their passwords and two-factor authentication codes. Once users entered the data, their accounts were liquidated by the hackers. When administrators became aware of the attack, they immediately closed withdrawals on the platform and began investigating. The company later announced that the attack was caused by a foreign software and that six of its user accounts were affected by the hack. Localbitcoins also announced that its “Know your customer data” was not affected by the attack.
The company was able to identify and resolve the issue fairly quickly, which shows that the team can respond quickly and efficiently when a problem arises. However, it has not yet been announced whether users whose accounts were liquidated by the hackers will be compensated for their losses.
