Malwarebytes solves Windows 7 device freezing issue

The Malwarebytes team has finally fixed the bug that was causing freezes on Windows 7 devices!

Malwarebytes

The issue was discovered earlier this month, and the team said it only occurred on devices running Malwarebytes for Windows version 3.6.1 CU 1.0.508, specifically with premium enabled. In a statement today, the company said that upgrading component package 3.6.1 to version 1.0.527 fixes the issue, and it recommends that users update their devices as often as possible. The issue appears to be related to multiprocessor synchronization, and the company's team said last week that it was testing a potential fix internally.

In order to avoid this issue, all users, especially those running Windows 7, should upgrade to the latest version as soon as possible. Previously, users were encouraged to disable Malwarebytes for Windows Web Protection or revert to an older Malwarebytes for Windows components package. In case any of the workarounds were used to store the security solution on a Windows 7 device, you will be able to revert to the original configuration and install the latest version of the application.

It should be noted that Windows 7 is still one of the most popular Windows versions on the market, despite the support provided in the last year.

Microsoft also announced that it will stop providing updates for Windows 7. This will happen on January 14, 2020, and users who will still be running it by then should at least be prepared to move to a newer version of Windows. It is worth mentioning that Microsoft's most preferred choice is Windows 7, but updates are still coming for Windows 8. Furthermore, as for Windows 8, it is expected to stop on January 10, 2023.
