If you're an Apple and have a Windows 10 PC, you have a great reason to visit the Microsoft Store.
After nearly a year of waiting, Apple has finally brought its iTunes software to the Microsoft Store, which allows people to watch movies, listen to songs and podcasts, and sync iDevices to Windows. Although we expected the software in 2017, it's now available to us almost a year later.
The new iTunes app for Windows 10 is no different from the desktop version. It's available via the Desktop Bridge — a way to configure desktop apps to be compatible with the Microsoft Store. That effort seems outdated at a time when Microsoft is busy filling its store with modern UWP and Progressive Web Apps.
Otherwise, everything is done the same way. The only change is in the update process, which will now be done through the Microsoft Store, just like other apps.
iTunes hasn't left behind its "slow" nature, which has been a problem for Windows users for a long time. The user experience is also made worse by the lack of the kinetic scrolling feature, which is now common in every other application.
One advantage is that its availability in the Microsoft Store allows iTunes to run in S Mode (Windows 10 S), which does not support apps outside of the Redmond store.
To run the iTunes Store app on your computer, the minimum requirement is Windows 10 FCU (16299). So, update your computer if you haven't already.
As for the older iTunes, Apple doesn't seem to be shutting it down yet as the software needs to meet the needs of Windows 7 users who don't have access to the Store. However, it may be discontinued in the near future.
iTunes is one of the apps that Windows users want in the Store. Google Chrome is another desirable app in the Microsoft Store, but it would require major changes to the browser.
