Samsung Exynos 9810: Ready to compete with Apple

In recent years, one company has seemed to dominate the performance of single-thread ARM chipsets: Apple. While companies like Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek have been pushing CPUs with multiple cores, Apple has largely stayed the same direction, continuing to build 2-core and 4-core processors with high performance (the exception is the new A11, which is 6-core). This year, however, it may face a new competitor in the processor space thanks to Samsung's new M3 architecture and the Samsung Exynos 9810 SoC. Let's take a look at some of its features:Exynos 9810

  • Deep Learning: The Exynos 9810 introduces advanced features to enhance the user experience with deep-learning-based software. This technology allows the processor to accurately detect objects or faces in photos for quick image search or categorization. In addition, the Exynos 9810 enables depth sensing to scan the user’s face in 3D, providing strong security when unlocking a device with a face.
  • Processing Power: The Exynos 9810 features an upgraded and optimized cache. With a clock speed of up to 2.9GHz, the 3rd generation custom CPU offers higher processing power, and performance in single- and multi-core applications is improved by around 40% compared to its predecessor. Notably, the Exynos 9810 is built on the 2nd generation 10nm FinFET architectureto deliver powerful performance with less power.
  • LTE Modem: This supports category 18 with 6CA (carrier aggregation) for downlink and 2CA for uplink. With download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps and upload speeds of up to 200Mbps, the Exynos 9810 enables high-quality streaming as well as VR.
  • Multimedia: The Exynos 9810 supports 4K UHD video recording and playback at frame rates up to 120fps. In addition, the advanced MFC codec supports 10-bit HEVC and VP9 codecs that can render 1,024 different tones for each primary color (red, green, and blue). Last but not least, the audio system is upgraded to offer quality up to 32bit/384kHz and low power consumption.
  • Graphic Performance: The Exynos 9810 features the latest ARM Mali-G72 GPU that brings more realistic graphics with 20% stronger performance than its predecessor. The GPU is based on ARM’s second-generation Bifrost architecture, which is designed for high performance with lower power consumption.
  • Security: The Exynos 9810 enables secure use of your smartphone by adding strong security features. It protects your operating system from a malicious attack by combining binary encryption with enhanced DRAM encryption. It also features firewalls that isolate internal subsystems from each other. For example, by installing a firewall around the modem or Wi-Fi subsystem, the processor can protect the main system from unauthorized remote access via modem or Wi-Fi.
