Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.5 beta Released for Testing

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.5 beta: Red Hat's main focus with the new operating system it released is security.
RHEL 7.5 Beta is designed to provide a solid foundation for the hybrid cloud. It also brings key new and improved features for security, compliance, platform efficiency, and manageability.RHEL
The newest member of the RHEL 7 family supports not only x86 chips but also IBM Power, IBM System z, and ARM.
For security reasons, in addition to improvements for Meltdown and Spectre, Red Hat is also bringing the following security features to RHEL 7.5:

  • Security and usability improvements for cloud and remote hosted systems that can more securely unlock encrypted network-attached devices at boot time. This will eliminate the need for manual intervention in an often time-consuming boot process.
  • Integrating Red Hat Ansible DevOps Automation with OpenSCAP will make it easier to automate disaster recovery and allow administrators to more efficiently process policies across servers and clouds.
  • Compliance improvements for precise timing and synchronization needs with the addition of failover with connection interfaces for Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and Network Time Protocol (NTP).

In addition to RHEL's increased security, Red Hat is also looking to improve storage capacity by introducing the virtual data optimizer (VDO). This is a new technology that comes from Red Hat's acquisition of Permabit. Want to learn more about the beta? You can read the RHEL 7.5 release notes .
