Microsoft recently announced a major update to the Microsoft Pix app for iPhone that brings back the Photosynth service that the company had abandoned earlier this year.
Starting with version 1.3.2, Microsoft Pix not only integrates Photosynth technology, but also comes with other improvements including a feature that allows converting videos into comics.
Microsoft says the tool that lets iPhone users take perspective photos and create panoramas builds on the original service created in 2017 and comes with several improvements.
Compared to the iPhone panorama feature which allows you to shoot horizontally and create panoramic photos, Microsoft Pix allows you to move the photo in any direction you want, thus better examining the photos you will take.
Next, we meet the new Pix Comix feature that was created during Microsoft's OneWeek hackathon and can turn your videos into comics by automatically selecting the most interesting frames in the clip.
This feature uses Pix's core feature called Moment Capture and looks for non-blurred frames, faces with open eyes, and other scenes that could be used in comics. Speech bubbles are automatically created and users have the ability to move, rotate, resize, and edit the text as desired.
It goes without saying that the app remains free and supports any iPhone 5s or later running iOS 10 or later. You can download the new version of Microsoft Pix from the App Store.
