WordCamp Athens 2017: Approximately 28% of the websites that people read every day are built on the open source content management system WordPress.
WordCamps are the official conferences of WordPress and the internet in general, organized in every major city in the world by local communities. Every year, around 80 WordCamps are organized around the world!
In a WordCamp, various topics are presented, such as: web development, web design, social media, ecommerce, blogging, content strategy, entrepreneurship and many more. WordCamps are non-profit conferences, organized voluntarily and under the auspices of the WordPress Foundation, the official non-profit organization, whose purpose is to preserve the openness of WordPress.
For the second consecutive year, the Greek WordPress community is organizing WordCamp Athens, on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Athens Concert Hall
Who is a WordCamp for?
A WordCamp is for everyone involved with WordPress and the internet, regardless of their level of knowledge and experience. The conference is aimed at any user or professional interested in learning about developments around WordPress and internet technologies in general. Web developers, web designers, bloggers, journalists, IT students, content editors, web editors, social media managers and many other specialties are just some of the categories of people to whom the conference is aimed.
At the same time, it is an excellent opportunity for the internet technology community to gather for a day in one place, to attend interesting presentations by distinguished Greek and foreign speakers, for its members to get to know each other, and to communicate with major companies in the field.
Basic principles, accessibility, benefits
The openness of the community towards every person and respect for their diversity are some of the basic principles of the global WordPress community. All people are equally welcome regardless of gender, age, origin, religion, sexual orientation, but also level of knowledge and experience.
To facilitate everyone's participation in the conference, the venues are accessible to people with disabilities, the speeches are covered live with sign language interpretation, while childcare by professionals for parents who have this need (for the latter, a simple communication with the organizers is required) at no additional cost.
Funding – sponsorships
WordCamp Athens is funded a) by the official sponsors and supporters of the WordPress Foundation (global sponsors) b) by financial donations or service offerings from companies operating in Greece and around the world (local sponsors) and c) by ticket revenue. For this reason, 5 sponsorship packages have been created, from which each interested company can choose how they wish to support the conference.
