How they track you from secure iPhones

Apple's iPhones are generally considered secure devices, and the Cupertino company never misses an opportunity to emphasize how safe its users are.

However, according to a Google employee, this is not entirely true, as the iPhone camera can be used for spying by simply hijacking apps that have access to the device's camera. iPhoneFelix Krause published a detailed analysis and a PoC video revealing how the attack works. As you will see, hackers could not only access front and rear cameras, but they can also record every movement of the user even when the hijacked app is running.

Additionally, hackers can use the bug to broadcast live from the iPhone camera to the Internet, as well as run even more advanced functions to detect the user's location, see if they are in front of the camera, or run facial recognition software.

The Google expert says that Apple has already been informed of the bug and as he explains in his in-depth analysis, Cupertino could add an LED to the iPhone cameras that would notify users of any suspicious activity.

In the meantime, and until Apple does something to resolve the problem, users can protect themselves by either purchasing covers that block the camera when not in use or revoking camera access from all apps that use it.

Apple has not released any official statement on the matter, and may never do so, as it usually does, even if it is preparing a software update.

According to the Google researcher, however, this particular problem is somewhat difficult to solve with a simple software update, which is why he suggested adding an LED.
