Debian Project: Debian, a well-known Unix-based computer operating system powered by the Linux kernel, celebrated its 24th anniversary yesterday, since Ian Murdock first announced the Debian Project in 1993.
Since then, the Debian Project has decided to designate August 16th as Debian Day, to celebrate the project's anniversary every year with organized social gatherings in various parts of the world.
“If you are near any of the cities celebrating Debian Day 2017, you are welcome to join the party,” Laura Arjona Reina says in a blog post. “If not, there is still time for you to organize a small celebration or contribute to Debian.”
Debian GNU/Linux is one of the most used and beloved operating systems among the Linux community. It is a distribution on which many popular distributions are based, including Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
The latest release of Debian GNU/Linux is codenamed Stretch, and its version is 9.1.0. The operating system is currently officially supported on ten hardware architectures.
