Samsung plans to release the Galaxy Note 8 this year

After the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, some thought that Samsung might abandon the Note series altogether and focus on some of its other smartphones. However, the company is not willing to give up so easily and is planning a new Note phablet during the second half of the year.

Business Korea reported that an industry insider said that Samsung will release a new Note device this year. The Galaxy Note 7 was believed to be the best smartphone of last year, before the devices started catching fire and videos started circulating online.

Samsung is believed to be launching the Galaxy S8 in April, and the Galaxy Note 8 could launch sometime after that. Considering that the previous two Note devices were announced in August, the new Note 8 could launch in the same month this year.

An employee from a Samsung affiliate said, "Samsung will introduce 2K displays on the Galaxy S8, but will use 4K displays on the Galaxy Note 8 to realize enhanced virtual reality (VR) features. I heard it will also be connected to the new Gear VR." This means that Samsung will launch a new Gear VR along with the Galaxy Note 8.

The Galaxy Note devices are some of the most popular phablets out there, and Samsung isn't ready to abandon the series just yet. The South Korean company is also expected to announce the results of its research on the Galaxy Note 7 later this month.

The investigation was conducted by US -based safety organization UL , and Samsung will also reveal the results of independent investigations conducted by the Korea Institute of Technology. The cause of the Galaxy Note 7 fires is believed to be linked to the hardware's electronic design, but this remains to be proven.
