It appears that the US government has declared war on drones, as it will soon force drone owners to register their remotely controlled toys with the US Department of Transportation.
The government says the issue will be examined by a working group that will propose how to implement the drone around the middle of next month, so that new registrations can begin in December.
The change in US policy is due, according to the Government, to a few accidents involving unmanned aircraft. The US Government hopes that the new rules will force hobbyists to learn the correct rules so that they use drone safely. Of course, this also means that if someone violates a rule, it is also easier to be arrested.
Unfortunately, while the goal behind the registration requirement for drones may be honest, it is considered unlikely that it will lead to a safer overall use of unmanned aircraft, since users who want to use them for malicious purposes will simply bypass the registration, just as is happening now with illegal weapons.
