Be the first to download Firefox 48 Final before the official release

The new version of Firefox 48 final will be released tomorrow. Version 48 of Firefox is a major update that also brings with it a notable change, “Electrolysis”.Firefox 48 Final

This feature, which will be enabled by default, is also known as multi-process mode or simply E10S.

E10S or Electrolysis works much like the technique chemists call electrolysis, which allows them to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, for example. Similarly, for Firefox, it will be used to separate a UI process and a content process. Splitting UI from content means that when a website is eating up a large percentage of your CPU, you will still be able to keep your tabs, buttons, and menus active and functional.

With the arrival of Firefox 48 Final, E10S will be enabled for 1% of users, those who use few or no add-ons. If this experiment resolves the issue of excessive CPU consumption, then the percentage of users for whom E10S will be enabled may increase. If it causes problems, then Mozilla developers may possibly suppress it.

The Mozilla Firefox 48 Final improves stability and performance of the WebRTC API, supports document.elementsFromPoint for HTML5, and adds HKDF support to the Web Crypto API.
