Members of the hacktivist movement Anonymous have reportedly created a new political party in the US political scene. They have called it The Humanity Party or THumP (fist).
The group had announced its intentions through a press release released on Monday, in which they explained that their new political party would be a way to force change from within, with the help of peaceful and legal means.
In the press release, and in a video posted on YouTube, the group denounced many of the media outlets used by Anonymous, as well as the use of a machine-generated voice used in the videos to warn of impending cyberattacks.
Representatives of the THumP or Humanity Party stated that their new mission is to represent 100% humanity, and to fight for the FBNL, or Five Basic Necessities of Life: free healthy food and water, stable and safe housing, basic clothing, physical and mental health, and education.
In the video they published, they turn against the official and sole voice of Anonymous, and state that they will not accept donations because money corrupts.
Anonymous is by nature a leaderless group. So a political party from the group is unlikely to go down well with all Anonymous members outside the US, who would have no reason to support a US political party.
If successful, Anonymous wouldn't be the first political party to start online. The Pirate Party of Sweden was founded in 2006 to challenge the country's harsh copyright laws. The party has since grown and spread to many countries, and is now even represented in the European Parliament.
