Acer, a Taiwanese multinational company, has informed its customers of a data leak from its online store.
The company says that users who accessed the e-commerce site from May 12, 2015, to April 28, 2016, are likely at risk as its systems were accessed by unauthorized third parties.
Acer did not say how many users were affected by the breach, but it did reveal that data such as names, addresses, payment card numbers, card expiration dates and three-digit security codes (CVV) may have been compromised.
The company said it doesn't collect social security numbers. But after all of that, what does it matter..
Following an investigation by their staff and a team of external cybersecurity experts, Acer said it found no evidence to indicate that the attacker gained access to login credentials of users of its platform.
Acer runs an online store on the Magento Enterprise platform, which we have been hearing more and more about security vulnerabilities in.
As required by US law, the Taiwanese company began notifying all US citizens, as well as its customers from other countries who may have been affected by the data breach.
Below is a copy of the company's notice filed with the California Attorney General's office.
