Software engineers Jay Flatland and Paul Rose have created a machine that can solve Rubik's Cubes incredibly fast. Their robot takes just over a second to complete its task.
The duo is currently trying to build an app for a world record. The current machine record takes 3.253 seconds to solve the cube, while the current human world record is held by Lucas Etter and is 4.904 seconds.
In the video, the robot solves the famous cube in 1.196 seconds, 1.152 seconds, 1.047 seconds, and finally in 1.019 seconds.
The robot consists of stepper motors, 3D-printed frames, and four USB cameras connected to a computer. The cube is scanned to determine the settings.
The information collected feeds the Kociemba algorithm used to solve the puzzle cube, which then makes the robot make the appropriate moves.
