Alexander Wolf has just announced the release and immediate availability for download of the free, open source, astronomical observatory Stellarium 0.14.0 for the GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
Stellarium 0.14.0 brings us a bunch of new features and improvements, and ranks as the best open source desktop astronomy program that works on all major operating systems.
Some of the best features of the program are support for the IAU2006 model, the simplification of DeltaT operations, which have also become more intuitive, the addition of a brand new coordinate system called Ecliptic coordinates of date, as well as support for displaying planetary positions predicted by the VSOP87 solution.
In addition to the major new features listed above, Stellarium 0.14.0 contains improvements to the 3D Sceneries, Meteor Shower, Telescope Control, and Satellites plugins, adds support for toggle labels in Sceneries, allowing users to define mountain peaks, and makes OpenGL binding dynamic for the Microsoft Windows platform. In total, over 80 bugs have been fixed with the new release.
