WeChat messaging app hacked

Tencent said on Friday that its messaging app WeChat (which currently has over 600 million users) was breached by hackers who exploited a security flaw.wechat 1

After a preliminary investigation, the company said no user data or funds were stolen from TenPay eWallets, which allow users in China to purchase goods and services directly from the app.

“A security flaw was recently discovered and affects iOS users running WeChat version 6.2.5.”

“The flaw, which is based on an external hack attempt, has been fixed and will not affect users who upgrade to version 6.2.6, available on the App Store starting today,” Tencent says.

It should be noted that in late August, British police warned of scams on the app in question that were trying to trick users into purchasing gift cards in exchange for offline sexual services.

Also worrying is the fact that there are many videos and posts on the internet about how you can hack We Chat accounts.

So if you are using the application, it would be a good idea to update to the latest version released for iOS from the link below.
