TheFind startup was founded in 2006 in California, introducing an e-commerce platform focused on retail shopping search, something that interests most typical Internet users.
Some of TheFind's competitors include PopSugar, a network owned by ShopStyle, Fancy.com, and increasingly Pinterest, which is starting to grow its e-commerce channels.
TheFind has also largely pushed a new mobile strategy over the past few years, following shopper trends that show increasing purchases from smartphones and tablets.
Considering Facebook's revenue growth and the social network's reliance on mobile based on its latest earnings reports, TheFind's ethos fits right in with the values of the largest social network.
TheFind team confirmed the company's merger with Facebook in a blogon Friday. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
It is not yet clear whether all employees at TheFind will work at the world's largest social network.
The company's memo states that only "core members of our team will join Facebook."
Compared to some of Facebook's previous (multi-billion dollar) acquisitions like Whatsapp and Instagram, the Find purchase reflects a much more niche move that isn't aimed at finding more users.
TheFind company should shut down its standalone search engine in the coming weeks.
