Torrentz.eu shut down by British Police

The famous Torrentz.eu website , the largest torrent search engine on the Internet, is now a thing of the past, after it was suspended by the United Kingdom. The website's domain name stopped working at the request of the Intellectual Property Crime Police, a department that has made headlines around the world after sending letters to ISPs regarding various torrent sites, asking them to block them, without any court order.

The Metropolitan Police have been working with copyright holders for many months now, looking at ways to shut down torrent sites or any site with links leading to pirated content.

For starters, they send warning letters to website owners, asking them to close them or begin deleting pirated content.

Last week, the search engine FileCrop was shut down by police, and today Torrentz.eu followed suit. The websites are not only inaccessible in the UK, but also around the world after the domain provider shut it down following a request from British police.

According to TorrentFreak, there is hope that the suspension will be lifted soon. Of course, the administrators of Torrentz.eu did not remain idle, as the search engine is already running on the domains Torrentz.ch and Torrentz.me.

Let us remind you that the website Torrentz.eu does not host torrents like the Pirate Bay.

According to ICANN regulations, registrars cannot close a domain, even if the Authorities believe it may violate the law, unless there is a final Court order.

It seems that in the case of Torrentz.eu this was not really necessary.
