Microsoft released the final updates for Windows XP, as the company finally ended support for the 12-year-old operating system. The latest updates included the operating system, Microsoft Office 2003, and Internet Explorer 6.
The Redmond-based company released a total of 4 different security releases to fix 11 different vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, Internet Explorer, and Office, including a critical security flaw in Word that was already being exploited by cybercriminals.
Two of the critical updates in detail
MS14-018 is a cumulative update for Internet Explorer that addresses six vulnerabilities in the Microsoft browser, the company said. These flaws could allow an attacker to execute remote code when a user loads a modified web page.
MS14-017, Fixes security vulnerabilities in Microsoft Word and Office Web Apps, such as remote code execution that is possible on an unpatched operating system. One of these vulnerabilities is known and circulating online, while two others came through private channels.
