Most of us have seen or heard of the movie Robocop, where the protagonist escapes death with the help of scientists and through the addition of robotic systems to his body. Reality is still far from a similar intervention, but a group of students from the Discovery Lab of the University of Florida, inspired by the above movie, created TeleBot, a wireless police robot!
The two-meter-tall "mechanical" police officer weighs approximately 40 kilos and is intended for use by disabled police officers, who will be able to carry out patrols, since the TeleBot offers the user a live view of his environment, while also offering the possibility of interaction through his special hands.
To achieve this, the user must wear the long-awaited Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, combined with a special vest that detects body movement. Once this is done, the TeleBot responds to the police officer's movements and emulates them, giving a new dimension to the lives of disabled officers and marking the first step towards futuristic crime prevention.
