Bill Gates admitted to something the whole world has known for decades.
Forcing computer owners to simultaneously press a difficult key combination (Control-Alt-Delete ) to restart their machines or stop a problematic program was a mistake, the Microsoft in an interview with a Harvard fundraising campaign.
“We could have had just one button, but the guy who designed the IBM didn’t want to make us just one button,” Gates said, explaining that the combination was created to ensure that an application couldn’t maliciously perform the function.
The man who came up with the idea for the three-button combination was David Bradley, an IBM employee who was responsible for designing the original IBM PC. Ironically, the mechanism was actually originally created as a shortcut that would allow the computer to be reset.
Although the admission has been made by Microsoft and many, many others, the company continues to include it in its operating system.
Gates has made big money at times. Last February, he said that Microsoft in recent years was wrong and that the company did not "get the lead early" on laptops, like Apple did with the iPhone.
