Microsoft Windows 8 has sold 60 million licenses

Despite Microsoft's initial concerns that its new operating system Windows 8 is not meeting consumer expectations, a company executive today provided comparative data on sales to date with those of Windows 7.

Mr. Tammi Reller, chief financial officer and head of Windows marketing, announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada that Microsoft has sold 60 million licenses for Windows 8 to date.

That number includes sales to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as upgrades. He continued by saying that while “Windows 8 is a big, ambitious change” and that “sales are “almost on par with what we had with Windows 7.” Microsoft previously revealed that it had sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses as of the end of November, BGR reports.
