AVG Antivirus Free represents the free version of the AVG lineup of security products, aimed at protecting your computer from all types of malware, such as viruses, Trojans, spyware, rootkits, worms and dialers.
In addition to removing malware, the application has a real-time engine that can detect and block incoming threats.
In the article you will see how to run the scan and resolve infections.

Customize the installation
By default, the setup file wants to install AVG Antivirus Pro, where you can try out all the features, but you will have to either purchase the full package or uninstall it after 30 days. To install the free version with fewer features than Pro, click Custom installation and then, in the Basic protection box.
How to run scans
To run a scan after the main AVG Antivirus Free window is expanded, click the scan now button to check the entire computer, or click the settings button next to the scan nowif you want to scan specific files or folders or run only an Anti-Rootkit scan. You can also right-click one or more selected files or folders in Windows Explorer and select scan with AVG. If threats are found, click Review and Take Action, then Remove all.
When the AVG Antivirus Free engine detects malware, it will open a window with the threat type and the name of the object, giving you the option to remove it (click Protect Me). Otherwise, you can simply ignore the threat.
How to manage scheduled scans
To schedule scans to run automatically, click the settings next to scan now, click Manage scheduled scans, select the existing Scheduled Scan from the list, click Edit scan schedule, and then move the slider to enable it.
How to configure scan settings
You can configure them separately for the entire computer, custom and anti-rootkit scan. To reach these sections, where you can control AVG's behavior and specify what it can and cannot identify as malware, click the settings button next to each scan mode in the Scan Options area .
