[su_heading size=”18″]You may have heard of the search engine DuckDuckGo. If not, then let us tell you that it is the search engine that does not “spy” on you at all. But that is not its only great feature.[/su_heading]
There are other cool features, called “goodies” by DuckDuckGo, that will definitely make you seriously consider changing your default search engine.
Quick navigation
If you're more of a keyboard guy, then DuckDuckGo is the place for you. You can easily navigate your search results with the help of a few keystrokes. Here are some shortcuts:
<j>: Scroll down to the results
<k>: Scroll through the results
<l> or <Enter>: Open a highlighted link
<h> or </>: Go to the search bar
<s>: Go to a misspelled link
<t>: Go to the top of the page

Cheat sheets
This is an incredible feature of DuckDuckGo: If you're not good at remembering keyboard shortcuts, for example the list we mentioned above, in any other case you would have to refer to a manual or a blog post for a quick look... but DuckDuckGo beats you to it!
In most applications, such as Vim, there are a variety of key bindings. Simply enter the name of the application and next to the name “cheat sheet”. For example, you can see the image below showing the Firefox cheat sheet:
Immediate answers
DuckDuckGo provides you with instant answers to many of the questions you ask: For example, see the following:
Movies with
Type “movies with” and the name of your favorite actor and you will get what you asked for!
Soundcloud
Listen to music directly from DuckDuckGo. In the search bar, type the name of the artist you want to listen to followed by “Soundcloud.” For example, “Daft Punk Soundcloud”:

Recipes
Search for recipes directly from DuckDuckGo. Looking for a pizza recipe? Just type “pizza recipe” and voila! Enjoy!
Weather
Check the weather in another part of the world or outside your home by simply typing “weather” or “weather<location name> ".
And many, many more….
Bang Search
We'll explain what this is right away: For example, type “!a blazers” into the DuckDuckGo search bar. What bang search does is redirect you to the exact site you wanted to search for! For this example, “!a” refers to Amazon. This will take you directly to Amazon, looking at the blazers available!
There are thousands of bang arches available (currently 6396) and they are growing! You can search for a movie, say “Ant-Man”, directly on “Imdb”, via DuckDuckGo by simply typing “!Imdb Ant-Man”.
Customize
Users can easily customize DuckDuckGo to their liking. Click the menu in the top right corner of the page for customization options. Since DuckDuckGo doesn’t store your information, it relies on browser cookies to remember your settings. So, every time you reset your browser, your settings will be gone. To avoid this, you are given the option to save them to the cloud.
