Hacking Team, the well-known Italian spyware sales company, has been in the dark for a while now after a major leak of its sales methods and details. But it now seems that the company may be making a comeback!
Security researchers have noticed that a recent Mac malware installs a version of Hacking Team's Remote Code Systems tool from as early as October, 3 months after the major leak!

There is of course a case where another team simply took and reworked the leaked code, but the evidence suggests that this is not the work of amateurs.
For starters, the presence of new code in a malware sample is strange in itself. Why would another team keep Hacking Team's work? It's also unusually complex: it uses Apple's encryption system, making it harder to control the malware's content. The only major doubt is that the team has promised to come back with new code, while here there are only a few modifications that don't count for much.

You probably shouldn't worry at this stage! At least some virus scanners will already detect the malware and there is no obvious infection mechanism! You might be tricked into installing a file or falling victim to some other scam that claims to be the work of Hacking Team. But if this is indeed the work of Hacking Team then this is bad news for government spying targets.
