In recent years, the number of Hackathons has been increasing at a significant rate. In these hackathons, novice and experienced programmers stay awake for days - surviving only on Pizza and coffee - creating and breaking codes. It will be interesting to know which are the most popular programming languages in these hackathons? And, which hardware, platforms and APIs are used the most by programmers in hackathons? So today we will share the answers with you.

Devpost digital infrastructure is widely used in student hackathons and engineering schools. The results we present were based on data from 13,281 students from 160 hackathons and 9,898 projects.
Regarding mobile platforms, Android came first with a percentage of 38.2%, followed by iOS with 22.7%. Windows Phone also had a significant percentage of 4.9%.
So what are the most popular Programming Languages at Hackathons?

What is the most popular Hardware at Hackathons?
Arduino being at the top of the list of most popular hardware is not a big surprise, as it is flexible enough to be used with any type of “electronics project.” Following are: Myo gesture control device, Pebble smartwatch, Leap motion gesture controller, Oculus Rift headset, and Rasberry Pi.

What are the most popular APIs used in Hackathons?
According to Devpost, developers use popular and widely known SDKs and APIs. In hackathons, the most popular APIs are: Twilio for messaging, Venmo for payments, Facebook for social, Spotify for music, Google Maps for geo, and Unity for gaming.
