#RIPTwitter? The algorithm that will anger users!

Since Twitter started, tweets have been organized in chronological order and this is something that users like and prefer over Facebook!

Dead Twitter

Of course, this aspect of the service has become complicated over the years. Now Twitter is preparing to drastically change the way users view their timeline, and this change will probably happen very soon! Starting next week, the company plans to replace the chronological order with an algorithm that will display the most relevant tweets and not just the most recent ones, something similar to the algorithm that Facebook in its timeline.

Late last year, the company tested this new approach with some users, but the idea didn't seem to be a hit with its most loyal supporters. But it's no surprise now, as executives have been talking about it for a long time now. In 2014, CFO Anthony Noto said that displaying tweets in chronological order wasn't the best or most relevant way for users.

CEO Jack Dorsey is determined to make the service more user-friendly for those trying it out for the first time. Since many of them already use Facebook, they will be used to seeing posts not in chronological order. How Twitter is going to make this change is not yet known. The best bet is that the service will let users choose what they like the most, which is very likely according to the reports so far.

However, so far it seems that there are many reactions from users and proof is #RIPTwitter which became the first trend on the social network. Many claim that they will leave the service if it starts to look like Facebook!
