Google has upgraded its popular digital map application Google Maps, which now includes elevation information for bike routes.
The new feature is very useful for cyclists, who until now did not know whether they should follow a straight route or a route with many hills to reach their destination. However, cycling enthusiasts will now be able to plan in advance the ideal route they want to follow.
Google it has added it to the official changelog of the updated desktop app.
The giant confirmed the news to TechCrunch, noting that the elevation information is only available for the 14 countries where Google currently offers directions for cyclists, namely Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Sweden and the United States.
