Seven of the luxury hotels owned by presidential candidate and real estate impresario Donald Trump were hit with payment information-stealing malware that was active for more than a year, between May 2014 and June 2015.
The report affected transactions at hotel front desks, hotel restaurants, and gift shops.
“We believe the malware may have compromised payment card data, including payment card account numbers, card expiration dates and security codes,” the company said in a statement. “The malware may have accessed payment card details in real time as they were entered into our systems.”
The news came three months after banks said they suspected hacking at the hotel chain.
Trump Hotel Collection also said that an independent forensic investigation found no evidence that any customer information was removed from its systems .
“We have taken action regarding this incident by removing the malware from our systems,” he said. “In addition, we continue to refactor various components of our network and payment systems to further secure our systems that process payment cards.”
The possible thefts occurred at Trump SoHo in New York, Trump International New York, Trump National Doral in Miami, Trump International in Chicago, Trump International Waikiki in Hawaii, Trump International Hotel and Tower in Las Vegas and Trump International Toronto.
Trump announced that she is working with the US Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to help “catch these criminals and face the law.”
Finally, other luxury hotel chains, such as Mandarin Oriental, have reported data breaches this year.
