The 2014 Jeep Cherokee takes first place among the five most "hackable" car models.
A study by digital forensics firm PT&C | LWG reveals the five most carshackableon . the road today, contrasting them with four other cars that are extremely difficult to hack
Using data from recent discoveries by researchers and white-hat hackers, PT&C | LWG was able to compile the top 5 most vulnerable cars and…here are the results:
In first place is the Jeep Cherokee (2014 model) followed in order by: Infiniti Q50 (2014), Cadillac Escalade (2015), Toyota Prius (2014/2010) and Ford Fusion (2014).
On the other hand, the Audi A8 (2014), Dodge Viper (2014), Honda Accord (2014) and Tesla Model S emerged as the safest cars, as they were found to be less vulnerable to hacking attacks.
According to the researchers, a decisive role in identifying the most vulnerable vehicles was played by the number of electronic components that are interconnected and connected to external factors, via WiFi or radio networks.
Cars rated as less hackable not only have a small number of computers in their internal systems, but these computers are isolated from each other and kept away from open points that are easy to hack into, such as USB ports, WiFi, and radio systems .
The fact that the 2014 Jeep Cherokee emerged as the most vulnerable car should come as no surprise, as the company recently announced a recall of more than 1.4 million cars after a security researcher managed to hack into the Jeep Cherokee's computer systems, remotely taking full control of the car's dashboard, steering system, braking system and transmission.
Detailed information about the most vulnerable, but also the safest, car models on the market can be found in the Infographic below:
