July 4&5: hackathon for urban transport with open data – The free availability of public data in the sectors of the economy and public administration reduces the cost of citizens' transactions with the state
On the weekend of July 4 and 5, 2015, Athens Public Transport (OASA group), the innovation company Crowdpolicy and the innovation and entrepreneurship hub InnovAthens of the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens, under the auspices of the Ministry of Economy, Infrastructure, Shipping & Tourism, are organizing for the first time a two-day programming marathon (hackathon) on the topic of implementing applications for urban transport using open data.
The first #transport hackathon becomes a reality with the contribution of Athens Public Transport, which, in line with European and Greek legislation, provides open data for the benefit of citizens.
The free availability of public data in sectors of the economy and public administration reduces the cost of citizens' transactions with the state, as the provision of more and better quality data results in better informed citizens. At the same time, the economy is supported through the development of innovative entrepreneurship.
The action is supported by Google, Visa, Hellas Smart Ticket, Intrakat and Goody's Burger House.
Young entrepreneurs, programmers, analysts, designers, transportation experts , architects, communication and customer service executives , business consultants, professionals, students and in general anyone interested in actively contributing to the development of applications that promote entrepreneurship and improve services to citizens are invited to participate in the #transport hackathon, either as developers for the implementation of applications, or as mentors for support in the implementation, as businesses for advisory participation or as public sector executives.
Public and private sector bodies have also been invited to participate, making open data available in sectors such as culture, tourism, the environment and public administration.
The top three teams that will be recognized for their implementation will be awarded with cash prizes. Participants and winners will also be offered in-kind services, which will be announced on the event website, crowdhackathon.com/transport.
