Twitter is getting an upgrade: automatic production of videos, vines & gifs
Twitter is getting an upgrade to support autoplay of multimedia files like (native) videos, Vines, and .gifs while scrolling through the Timeline. Like Facebook, Twitter's autoplay will be silent, with the user choosing to enable it with a tap:
Once you tap the video, sound will turn on and the video will continue to play in an expanded view. If you turn the video to landscape mode, the sound will automatically turn on and the video will expand to fill the screen.
To avoid additional data charges, Twitter allows you to disable the autoplay feature:
- On the Twitter iPhone app, disabling the new autoplay feature is done through the Profile, selecting the "gear" icon and then going to general settings.
- The 3 available autoplay options are: Mobile data and Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi only and complete disabling of auto-play
- On twitter.com, disabling the new auto-play feature is done through the Profile, by selecting general settings > Video tweets > Autoplay
- The auto- play media began to be available today for the Twitter app for iPhone/iPad as well as the website version of the social network (twitter.com), while the app for Android devices will be supported later.
