A McDonald's vending machine in Australia has been offering a 50% discount . A glitch in its system allowed customers to buy their meals for half price!
The flaw could have been exploited directly from the menu, and it could have taken even longer for those responsible to realize what exactly was happening if someone hadn't uploaded a video to Facebook with instructions and steps on how to get the discount!
Four were the simple steps that led to a discount.
Max Jalal on Wednesday shared a video with instructions on how to get a Dinner Box with a regular cost of €17.50, for the price of €8.80 by doing…nothing other than using the vending machine's existing options! To keep employees from being suspicious, Jalal suggests choosing to pay directly to the vendor rather than at the cash register. The price cut could be achieved in various ways, for example by going back and forth to a specific option (L AND P) on the drinks menu, an option that was easy to spot since it didn't display a product image or price. After repeating this step 4 times, Jalal's bill was halved!
As expected, the video quickly went viral and in this way reached the hands of the store owners, who immediately the damage.
Such vending machines have been used at McDonald's for some years, but it is not known whether the process described in the video had the same results in all machines.
