The head of LG Electronics ' home appliance division is being tried on charges of intentionally damaging Samsung Electronics washing machines . The news, reported by Reuters, was confirmed by an LG Electronics spokesman and refers to Jo Seong-jin and two other LG employees who allegedly damaged LG washing machines at retail stores in Germany
The complaint was filed in September 2014, after Seong-jin visited two Saturn stores in Berlin, shortly before the IFA exhibition. The LG chairman, however, responded to the allegations by apologizing for any damage he caused during the routine testing of the devices by potential customers of the company - he opened and closed the doors of two washing machines. In fact, to prove his claims, he posted a 9-minute video of his visit on YouTube
LG had agreed to compensate Samsung for damage from an accident in four washing machines, yet it did not leave the opportunity to refer to the low quality of its competitor's products. The incident caused Samsung's anger, which filed a lawsuit.
Nevertheless, the spokesperson for the LG executive claims that it is doubtful whether there is sufficient evidence to prove that the president of a multinational company deliberately destroyed devices in front of the employees of its competitor – the truth will be revealed in court, said Ham Yoon-keun.
On the other hand, four employees of Samsung Display are being charged with the allegation that they stole OLED technology from LG Display. «It is a theft», says LG Display, «as it concerns trade secrets», although Samsung Display responds that the complaint is overly extensive, since the disputed technology was widely known.
