Exploding Kittens! Breaks the Kickstarter counters

You know Kickstarter. You probably don't know The Oatmeal , although you've probably come across it somewhere on Facebook. Matthew Inman  is a cartoonist obsessed with cats, endurance racing, and food , creating “The Oatmeal” since 2009 , which contains many imaginative comics with his own unique drawing style, and having published many of them in books/collections.

Now, The Oatmeal is becoming even more famous, while simultaneously “breaking” Kickstarter records! His new crowd-funded project is called “Exploding Kittens” and it is essentially a card game that will mainly contain… cats and explosions, while the creation of decks with some… NSFW cards is also planned , for those backers who give a little more.

The incredible thing is that Exploding Kittens had a goal of just $10,000 on Kickstarter, which it reached in… 8 minutes! And today, 3 days later (and with another 27 days left until its end), it has raised $3,000,000 from almost 85,000 backers, breaking the digital counters! At the same time, due to the huge response from the public, the terms of the project have been adjusted with upgrades to the decks, while the next goal is 100,000 backers! If achieved, then Inman, along with Elan Lee and Shane Small, will upgrade the NSFW expansion to a full deck for those who acquire it.

Exploding Kittens is already the top crowd-funded card game to date on Kickstarter, and although it doesn't break any records in absolute numbers (#22 in terms of money on Kickstarter), it is coming dangerously close to the absolute record in backers held by the Reading Rainbow project, with 105,857 backers! Well done to Oatmeal, then!
