The American company Local Motors announced that it plans to begin producing 3D-printed vehicles in 2015. The car will be called Strati. It is a two-seater vehicle that will be able to reach a speed of 40 kilometers per hour.

As announced by the vehicle's manufacturers, it will be the world's first 3D printed car. The vehicle was unveiled during the Detroit Auto Show.

“It takes just 44 hours to build a vehicle with digital production. We hope by the end of the year it will take just 24 hours. The goal is to soon be building it in 10-12 hours total,” said Jay Rogers, CEO of Local Motors.

The vehicle is made of 212 layers and weighs 800 kilograms. The Strati is intended for city driving as well as short trips. As it became known, its lifespan is a minimum of five years.

"If the vehicle is left outside in bad weather conditions, you will be able to use it for five to six years. If you store it in a garage, then it will last much longer," Rogers emphasizes.

"It's completely recyclable. If it breaks, bends or something breaks, then you can remove the non-recyclable elements and recycle the rest. That way you'll save some money on the value of the materials and buy a new vehicle," he added.

As for the cost of acquiring the 3D car, which is expected to be released by the end of 2015, it will range from 15,000 to 25,000 euros.
