The largest cybersecurity exercise by ENISA

cyber threats

The European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) is conducting the largest cybersecurity exercise in history today.

In particular, as announced by the European Commission, more than 200 organizations and 400 cybersecurity professionals from 29 European countries are testing their readiness to respond to cyber attacks in a day-long simulation organized by the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA).

As part of “Cyber Europe 2014”, experts from the public and private sectors, including cybersecurity agencies ,national IT emergency response teams, ministries, telecommunications and energy companies, financial institutions and internet service providers, are testing their procedures and capabilities in a large-scale cybersecurity simulation exercise.

More than 2,000 separate cyber cases will be examined, such as attacks on internet services, intelligence and media reports of cyber attacks, website spoofing (attacks that change the appearance of a website), leaks of sensitive information, attacks on critical infrastructure such as energy or telecommunications networks, and the EU's activation and cooperation procedures will be tested.

This is an exercise taking place across Europe and involving various exercise centers, under the supervision of a coordination control center.

According to a report published by ENISA in 2013, global cyber attacks increased by almost a quarter and the total number of data breaches was 61% higher than in 2012. Each of the top eight data breaches resulted in the loss of tens of millions of data records, while 552 million identities were exposed. According to estimates, cybercrime and espionage resulted in the loss of between 300 billion and 1 trillion US dollars worldwide in 2013.
