ESET today announced new versions of its leading solutions ESET NOD32 Antivirus 8 and ESET Smart Security 8 , featuring Botnet Protection and improved Exploit Blocker .
According to Cisco 's " Annual Security Report 2014 " and " 2014 Midyear Security Report ", among all indicators of compromise (IOC), Java exploits accounted for 91% in November 2013, increasing to 93% in May 2014. Adobe Reader, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word followed, with a 3% share.
These indicators of compromise usually reveal unusual behavior of a specific piece of data or software. This behavior manifests itself when an attacker attempts to exploit inherent vulnerabilities, glitches or bugs in the software – with the aim of taking control of the computer. Thanks to the improved Exploit Blocker in ESET NOD32 Antivirus 8 and ESET Smart Security 8, users are protected from such threats.
ESET Smart Security 8 also includes the new Botnet Protection, which protects against attempts to gain control of your computer remotely and use it as part of a malicious network. The 2014 Verizon Data Breach Investigation Report shows that botnet activity was the largest single category of recorded crimeware, accounting for 86%.
Several significant botnet attacks occurred in 2013. ESET Smart Security 8 technology detects irregular web communication patterns that are characteristic of botnets, as was the case with the discovery of Operation Windigo by ESET Research Labs last spring. It revealed more than 25,000 infected servers, which for more than two years redirected half a million web visitors daily to malicious content. In total, the botnet enabled the attackers to send more than 35,000,000 spam messages daily.
ESET Smart Security 8 also includes proven features such as Anti-theft, Parental Control and Personal Firewall.
ESET solution technology holds the record for the most consecutive VB100 awards in the market.
