With celebrities on the alert to prevent their nude photos stored in the cloud from being leaked, Jackass actor Steve-O decided to go against the grain and test the skills of hackers by challenging them to breach his iCloud account and steal all the nude photo content they could find.
He started the #HackSteveO campaign on Twitter, which is a reckless challenge, as he claims that his device can thwart malicious attempts of all kinds.
To gain access to iCloud, it doesn't necessarily have to be done by finding a vulnerability in Apple, but can also be done through social engineering.
With enough information about him available and given that he is a public figure with a lot of information online, a hacker could trick him into typing his credentials into a fake page, which sends the data to the attacker.
Having two-factor authentication enabled makes this more difficult, but not impossible. Targets with higher security have fallen victim to phishing attacks, a powerful method to learn information about the “victim” and compromise their accounts.
This is the tweet with which Steve-O challenges the hackers:
I just added lots of crazy nude photos to my iCloud, let's see how good these hackers really are! #HackSteveO pic.twitter.com/phwSTrJLAi
