Breathe new life into aging PCs
From small tweaks to settings to purchasing new RAM, there are plenty of options to suit everyone's budget.
So, before you decide to throw away your computer and get a new one, try the following suggestions:
1. Run frequent cleanup programs
CCleaner is an amazing application that will help you find and delete caches and temporary files in many of your applications.
2. Remove unnecessary visual effects and animations
In Windows 7, try disabling the resource-hungry “Aero.” Right-click on your desktop, then click “Personalize.” Select the “Window Color” tab, then uncheck “Enable transparency.”.
3. Use antivirus software frequently
Viruses and malware can infect your computer, so it's best to prevent them from happening in the first place. If you're using a free trial version of antivirus software whose notifications are as annoying as a virus, uninstall it and try using Microsoft's Security Essentials antivirus software, which won't bombard you with ads.
4. Buy more RAM
RAM, or random access memory, is a cheap and easy upgrade that can make a sluggish PC feel brand new again.
5. Restart your computer regularly
When you leave your computer on all the time, programs can end up using more memory over time than they need.
