As TechCrunch reports today, many of the features that Apple wanted to introduce and integrate into its Maps application in iOS 8 did not see the light of day at WWDC 2014 and it remains doubtful when they will become available.
Specifically, we read: "Why didn't new features appear? A reliable source reports that many developers left Apple, resulting in no improvements planned for the iOS 8 Maps app. It was more a failure of the project managers, as once again the planning for this app was completely wrong with developers coming and going during the time set for completing the improvements.".
It's true that Apple's Maps team has indeed lost some important people recently. Back in March, Cathy Edwards, who was responsible for Maps quality, left for unknown reasons. Although we never learned the real reasons for her departure, rumors have it that she had strong disagreements with the rest of the team. Apple also lost Jared Waldman, who was Head of Geo in Maps.
Now, no one knows whether Apple will manage to add new features to its Maps before the official release of iOS 8 to the public.
