Why did Facebook abandon last year's "revolutionarily redesigned" News Feed?

Remember last year's "revolutionarily redesigned" Facebook News Feed , which probably never made it to your account ? And not only that, but Facebook eventually abandoned it for a new, more... minimal design , which we're all slowly getting used to. But why was last year's design never "adopted" and Facebook completely changed its plans?

Dustin Curtis, an entrepreneur and blogger, claims that the reason is that the design with large photos was very popular with users, causing them to not pay attention to other parts of the site (like ads) , which is exactly why Facebook abandoned it.

Facebook, however, seems to disagree radically, with Julie Zhuo, a product designer at Facebook, having a different opinion, and writing about it in a relevant blog post. She argues, therefore, that the reason Facebook did not adopt this design is that most users have old computers with… crappy screens.

“It is proven that while I (and many of you) have impressive super‑high‑resolution 27 inch screens, most people in the world don’t have… Low‑resolution small screens are more common among people than the high‑resolution monitors of Apple or Dell… Not to mention that many people who access the site every day use Facebook only via computer – and not from their mobile phones or tablets… If more scrolling is required because each story is larger or navigation requires more mouse movements, the site becomes harder to use. And these people may not be early adopters or may not use the same hardware as us, but the quality of their experience matters just as much”.

We don't know if you're convinced by Facebook's explanation, but the appearance of its site at this stage is definitely as follows. Have you really received the new design?
